Arkham by way of Chicago
by Nate and Morgan
6:00 AM, on a rainy Sunday morning. We were battling the elements, sleep deprivation, and a pack of fell creatures from another plane…

The promise of the open road, the call of a Call of Cthulhu LCG tournament, and a lot of caffeine would (with a little luck) pull us through. Games Plus or bust!
Traffic, tornados, and tollbooths conspired to keep us away, but we would not be deterred. We arrived at the store midway through the second round, and the sample Cthulhus who came along for the ride were thrilled to see their fans (Don't worry -- we'll be showing them off online soon!).
The tournament was well underway, and the scene was one of intense focus and concentration, but a number of the players were accommodating enough to provide us with a photo opportunity.

Scott Ferguson was the eventual winner, behind the infernal powers of his Nyarlathotep deck. From what we saw, it looked like Scott was using recursion effects to get Nyarlathotep into play, and then using the Great Old One along with Subtype manipulation to steal his opponent’s characters and turn them to his own nefarious ends.
Following the main event was the draft, in which Eric Ferguson and John Hartigan tied for top honors. Eric was playing Hastur/Yog, and John played Shub/Miskatonic. The event had to wind down early before the two could play off, as everyone was famished from a long day of Cthulhu (the participants didn’t take a lunch break all day!), dinner was calling, and two draft champions are better than one!

If you’re somewhere near (or far!) to the American Midwest and you missed the Chicago regionals at Games Plus last weekend, fear not! The next regional tournament is just around the corner, this June 14th at Kryptonite Kollectibles in Janesville, WI. We hope to see you there!
